Carey Chilton Charyk has trained with Drs. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli, Herbert Benson, MD, Melissa Blacker and Florence Meyers at both The University of Massachusetts and Harvard medical schools. Charyk holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Indiana University and a Master of Arts in Psychology Counseling and Guidance from the University of Northern Colorado. She has been teaching courses since 2006 in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with a large percentage of the students employed in the health care field. Charyk's career path and volunteer service reflects her commitment to family and community health. She worked primarily in pediatric nursing for 10 years (NICU) but decided to pursue a master in psychology counseling after realizing her greatest strength was in supporting the families of sick children and addressing their concerns and struggles. While her own children were at home, she became actively involved in community volunteer work including: participating in her children's schools, starting a speaker series, parenting book discussion groups, directing plays and bringing people together in the name of education.

In addition to Board Certification in Family Medicine, he has earned added qualifications in the subspecialty of geriatric medicine, and has special interest in the psychosocial aspects of healthcare, and mind-body medicine. He also has a strong interest in international medicine, and has worked as a physician in Jamaica, Nepal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
